Unit 8

wow almost over only 2 weeks left. Have to revise my paper and lengthing it a bit. I beleive it was pretty good so far here if you want to see it.
Drug addiction is a disease caused by the drug addict themselves. Drug addicts are looking for the feeling that the drug gives them and think of nothing except what that drug gives them. So forcing addicts into rehab does not work. Drug addicts want the feeling drugs give them, Rehab is made glamorous, and Rehab only works if addicts want it. DuPont says" that 1 and 6 will themselves suffer from alcohol or drug addiction"(2000). This shows that drug addiction is a very serious problem in this society and should not be taken for granted. This behavior is a individuals doing to their selves so how is forcing them into Rehab really going to work. The drug addict is looking for that feeling they receive when taking a drug rather for the feeling to get away from pain or to feel a high they get from it. This is something that they want every minute of every day and will do anything to get it. So again how is forcing them into something going to make them better. The addict has to control their need to get that feeling they feel when they take that drug so how can a judge think forcing them into a rehab program get them clean. Sure it may work but most of the time it will fail because the addict does not want to give up that feeling and go right back to the drug. I found want Dupont says "that an addict will only stop when they hit rock bottom"(2000) to be so true. I have read to many times how people and celebrities are back in Rehab. An article that I have read from Scholastic Choices says that "celebrities have made popular culture from designer clothes they wear to rehab glamorous"(2009). This fact is seen all over the TV, internet, and other sources. You also read that they have been time and time again such as MacTaggart says in his article "celebrities "returning" for more drug rehab, some of them for the third or fourth time"(2010). Seeing celebrities forced into rehab by judges or family has shown that forcing them does not work. How many times have you watched or read that this celebrity is back in rehab. I have even seen a reality show about this on TV it was a good show but you can see how hard it is for them to get better and allot of the time they do not. So can rehab work yes but the addict needs to of wanted to get better or like Dupont says " hit rock bottom"(2000). In MacTaggart's article he states that "replacement therapy such as naltrexone or methadone can help addicts get off of certain drugs. But this can block all pleasure responses"(2010). So when the addict goes to rehab putting them on another drug really good for them or does it just change the addiction. Rehab does work if the addict wants to get better and the program can show them how to function in society without the drug. As MacTaggart says "drug rehab program you choose should empower you"(2010). The drug addict has to be willing to get better and needs to be put into the right treatment program for them. The drug addict needs to keep themselves going from minute to minute and day to day to keep that craving away or to keep it under control.
So we can see that Rehab is not going to work if forced on someone or can work if the addict is willing to get better. It is to glamorized in the media and needs to be brought back to reality so that the drug addicts can become better not so that people think it is only good to watch of TV. So my conclusion is that Rehab is only good in the right situation and does not work in most cases. The addict has to be willing and ready and the treatment has to be right for that addict. Forcing them into something will only work will they are at the treatment place because they are watched 24/7 and as soon as they are released will go right back to the feeling they want to have that the drug gives them.

unit 5

Hey. Thinking about the thesis for the discussion. Just keep seeing how forcing an addict can not make them better since they have to want to get better. They have to want not to take that drug.

Interesting article look ups

Hey everyone. Looking up articles for my paper on rehab for drug addicts I found alot of books I really like the Selfish Brain. This book really shows how an addict's life is. Most addicts are very selfish alls they want is that next high and do not care how they get it or who they hurt. Getting someone like that into rehab is very hard since they do not want to give up there drug. Still looking up others but I thought I would mention this one to you .

My first post

Hi, my name is Christie. I am doing this blog for my comp II class. Well this is my first post so hope I do this right. My thesis and/or paper is going to be about rehab for drug addicts. I have seen so many times that rehab does not work unless the person really wants to get better. Drug addiction is a everyday fight. So how did I do?
